  Cookies for Kids’ Cancer™ is a nonprofit foundation that was founded by a mom inspired by her son’s fight against cancer. Cookies for Kids' Cancer provides the inspiration and support for individuals, communities, and businesses to help children win their fight against cancer through local bake sales.

Mission: Cookies for Kids' Cancer's mission is to support peer-reviewed, cutting edge clinical and translational research efforts at leading children’s cancer centers.


  • Submitted by a mid-level or senior investigator (Assistant Professor > 5 years, Associate Professor, or Professor) who is nationally recognized in clinical or translational research.
  • Clinical relevance of the project and the likelihood of translating into a clinical investigation within a short period of time (e.g., 12 to 24 months) after receipt of funding.
  • Novel, innovative research of high scientific merit.
  • $100,000 total costs per year for two years, with a 3ʳᵈ year of funding possible based on an interim progress report.
  • Maximum total award of up to $300,000 over 3 years
    • - Indirect costs are not allowed.
    • - Application of the NIH salary cap is required.
    • - A budget justification (≤ 2 pages) must be provided.
  • Each site can submit up to two applications.

    Applications should contain the following sections:
  • Cover Page (Format of cover page)
  • Lay Summary (one paragraph)
  • Impact Statement (1/2 page maximum)
  • Budget and budget justification
  • Biosketch with other support (NIH format) for key personnel (Sample Biosketch with Instructions, Biosketch Template (MS Word Format))
  • Specific aims: One (1) page maximum
  • Scientific Project Description (4 pages maximum total for sections a-d)
    • Background and significance of research
    • Preliminary data, include dates
    • Study design, methodology including data/statistical analyses, and any problem areas anticipated
    • Timeline for proposed research, including initiation of clinical trials and dates of IRB approval and FDA approval, if applicable.
  • Literature cited (include complete citations)
  • Appendices - optional
    • Maximum of 2 pages
    • Clinical protocols - entire protocol may be included and does not count towards the page limit.
  • Collaborators or consultants – letters confirming the role of such individuals in the project, or affirming the supply of drugs or other therapeutics for preclinical or clinical studies, must be included with the application.
  • Assurances: Research using human subjects, animals, radioisotopes or biohazardous materials must have appropriate institutional review and approval.

  • Application submission: October 23, 2024 (11:00 PM EST)

  • Applications must meet the criteria outlined above.
  • Eligible applications will be reviewed by the CFKC's Scientific Advisory Board.
  • Funds will be granted to non-profit institutions or organizations in the United States.

  • Maximum $100,000 direct costs per year for a maximum of three years; 3ʳᵈ year of funding requires assessment of progress at time point specified in the award notice.
  • NIH salary cap guidelines should be utilized


  • Awardees should acknowledge the support from Cookies for Kids’ Cancer in any publications or presentations that emanate from this research support.
  • Periodic requests for photos of the PI and his/her research team or statements about the impact of Cookie’s funding will be requested by the Foundation.
  • Periodic request about whether the research resulted in a clinical trial and the trial status may be requested by the Foundation.
