Physicians associated with Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Centers’ (BCM/TXCH) Global Hematology-Oncology Programs of Excellence (HOPE), known as HOPE Consultants, have extensive experience managing pediatric cancer and blood disorders in resource-limited settings, The HOPE Consultants (“Consultants”) are available through the "BCM/TXCH Global HOPE Consultation site” to health care workers practicing in low and middle income countries (“Requestors”). Requestors, regardless of their institutional affiliation, may apply for an individual account to submit clinical cases for the Consultants to review and offer their opinions.

As the Consultants' training and experience is in pediatric hematology-oncology, Requestors are asked to limit their consultations to children less than the age of 21 years at the time of the consultation and with a primary inquiry related to pediatric cancer and/or blood disorders. Consultants will not respond to requests for patients over 21 years of age, or inquiries not primarily related to pediatric cancer and/or blood disorders.

Requestors are advised to submit any and all relevant medical and non-medical information that is pertinent to the clinical case. Consultants may request further information prior to rendering an opinion. While the "consultation site' is secure and only approved Consultants and Requestors have access, every attempt should be made to maintain patient confidentiality by not entering identifiable personal information, including full name, date of birth and medical record number into the 'consultation site'.

The opinions expressed by the Consultants represent their clinical judgment based on the information provided. Consultants do not have access to the entire patient's history, medical records, imaging, and pathology reports. They do not have the benefit of a personal interview and physical examination of the patient/family member. Therefore, Consultants' opinions are limited in scope and are not intended as a patient management plan. Requestors are responsible for providing the best possible medical care for their patients and should incorporate the Consultant’s opinion as only one aspect of the Requestor’s decision making process for a patient.

Interactions between Consultants and Requestors on the "consultation site” are considered informal; therefore any opinions expressed by the Consultants as well as their names, credentials, and affiliations must not be published, entered into a patient's medical record or shared with any individuals, including the patient and caregivers, excluding medical professionals involved in the direct medical care of the patient. Violation of this agreement will result in termination of a Requestor's account.

By clicking below, Requestors are consenting to the Terms of Service for the 'consultation site'.
