The Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) of Baylor College of Medicine is pleased to announce the 8th Annual Cardiovascular Research Institute Symposium will take place on April 7, 2021 (12 PM- 4:30 PM) and April 8, 2021 (11:30 PM- 4:30 PM) via live virtual sessions.

The Symposium will feature national keynote speakers, Alan Daugherty, PhD, DSc, Gill Foundation Chair of Preventive Cardiology, Director of the Saha Cardiovascular Research Center, Chair of the Department of Physiology, and Senior Associate Dean for Research at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. These 2 half days will be filled with scientific lectures, poster presentations and awards.

This year we will have a special ‘hot topic’ panel session on April 8th, 2021 that will focus on the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on cardiovascular disease.

CVRI will offer CME credits for participation in this year’s symposium. BCM designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ commensurate with the extent of each physician’s participation in the day’s events. Baylor College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Additionally, CVRI is accepting abstracts to feature online this year. Abstract submission is open to anyone interested in presenting a research poster on a topic pertaining to cardiovascular research at the CVRI Symposium. We invite you to submit an abstract and present a poster. Please be sure to register as well if you submit an abstract. This is a great opportunity to share your research and network with other cardiovascular researchers in the Baylor College of Medicine and in the Texas Medical Center community.

Please indicate in the online abstract submission whether you are a student, postdoctoral research trainee, clinical fellow/resident, instructor, or faculty member. This category must be selected to know who will be eligible for each award category during the poster presentation sessions on Symposium day. Only students, postdocs, clinical fellows, instructors and assistant professors are eligible for awards. Awards will be announced and given to the top poster presenters from each category. This year's symposium will be virtual, as such posters will be recorded and posted on our CVRI website. Winners will be announced at the beginning of the April 8th session at 11:30 AM during the Symposium Award Ceremony.

Please note posters can be in any area of cardiovascular research including, but not limited to:
  • coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, ischemia
  • heart failure, cardiomyopathy
  • arrhythmias, channelopathies
  • congenital developmental heart disease
  • aortopathy, valvular heart disease
  • cardiac regeneration, stem cells

The Abstract submission deadline was Monday, March 08, 2021 6:00 PM CST

The video presentation submission of your research is due Monday, March 29, 2021 at 6 PM CST.
