Tumor necrosis factor-a and the failing human heart
Dr. Mann was recognized for elucidating cellular and molecular mechanisms by which tumor necrosis factor (TNF) is expressed in the heart, as well as the consequences of TNF expression in the heart. His laboratory was the first to demonstrate that cardiac myocytes expressed TNF in response to cellular injury and/or exposure to bacterial endotoxins stimulate, thus providing potentially new treatment strategies for attenuating cardiac inflammation and/or cardiac injury.
