The Chao Physician-Scientist Award is made possible through a generous gift from the Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao Foundation. The purpose of this award is to provide funding for young investigators who are beginning their independent research careers. The award will support promising junior faculty members who are in the process of securing K08 or K23 grants but need interim funding.

Up to two awards at $100,000 each are available for one year.

  • Applicants must be physicians who hold a primary full-time appointment in a BCM department. There is no restriction on research focus; basic, clinical, and translational research projects will all be considered.

Applicants should have completed their fellowship and be in the process of seeking or awaiting funding of a K08 or a K23 award, or a nationally equivalent award.

  • A scientific review committee will review each application. Consideration will be given according to the above-mentioned criteria and the alignment of the application with the strategic goals of the College.

Up to two awards ($100,000 each) are available for one year from award notice date. Funds are temporary restricted and may be used to support research, including faculty salary and equipment, but exclude travel (unless travel is necessary to carry out the research; justification is required).
