            Rationale for IMPPHR
- Variceal hemorrhage in children is a feared major complication of portal hypertension and is associated with risk of morbidity and mortality.

    - Optimal approaches to the management of variceal hemorrhage remain controversial and informed by limited high quality data

    - IMPPHR was developed to inform clinical decision-making in the management of children with portal hypertension.

    -
The following are the major areas of investigation for which data collection occurs in IMPPHR

- mortality of 1st variceal hemorrhage

            - “feasibility and efficacy” of primary prophylaxis of variceal hemorrhage

            - approach to secondary prophylaxis of variceal hemorrhage
